One of Shammi Kapoor’s lesser known starrers but still with the trade mark music synonymous with his style and films. It also stars Leena Chandravakar, the beautiful Helen, Mehmood and a very young and handsome Vinod Khanna. I have been trying to find the LP for a long time but have never seem to come by one. Not sure how many songs are in the movie (been that long since I watched it) and for all I know, it may have only been released as an EP. Someone please let me know if this is the contrary.
The music from this movie is by Shankar-Jaikishan and lyrics by Rajinder Krishan and Hasrat Jaipuri. I can’t decide which songs I like the most; they are all so wonderful; although I am quite partial to Hum Bhi Shikari as Helen is just awesome in the song clip . I give it 4 stars +.
Preetam 1971: The Original Soundtrack EP
Side One
- Charche Gali Gali – Lata Mangeshkar
- Chal Suhani – Mohd Rafi
Side Two
- Sher Se Ladne Aayee – Mohd Rafi and Chorus
- Hum Bhi Shikari – Asha Bhosle and Chorus
Been searching for this music everywhere. Thanks for sharing. And love your site too.
ReplyDeleteThank you Anon. and you are welcome.
ReplyDeleteYes, Preetam is a lesser known Shammi Kapoor movie and probably his last as a hero unless one considers his Andaz (1972?). Chhote Sarkar (1977) I think is a late release. Unfortunately, by 1971 the younger Jaikishen of the music was dead.
ReplyDeleteComparatively, the music in this movie was not upto their usual standard.
Hi Nasir Saab, not familiar with Chhote Srakar, must check it out. Thanks for your comment.
ReplyDeleteI have a favour to ask. There's a tune that has been plaguing me. It's an instrumental by Bert Kaempfert and it is called "That Happy Feeling". There's a hindi version of the song. Do you know what it is and from what movie? I hope you can help cos it is driving me mad!!!
Thanks Veen for Preetam.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, Bert Kaempfert's "That Happy Feeling" was the "inspiration" for C. Ramachandra to score his hugely popular duet "Aap Ka Chehara" (Rafi-Asha). Can give you the song if you are interested.
Warm Regds / Babu
Sorry, missed to add the movie title. Rootha Na Karo (1970) starring Shashi Kapoor and Nanda.
ReplyDeleteWarm Regds / Babu
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Babu. That tune has been driving me loco all week. I even called my mum who lives in Malaysia on Sunday nite and even she had a mental block! Once again TA and I would really appreciate the song/album. Oh...and you are welcome for Preetam.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Veen.
ReplyDeleteI love Helen's performance in the tribal song "Hum Bhi Shikari." One of her best, Imo.
You have the EP for Preetam that left out 2 songs. Also, the tracks are shorter and faded out at the end. For example, Hum Bhi Shikari that you uploaded is 3:18 and should be 5:37. I have the DVD and You're missing a cool song "Charcha Gali Gali" with lots of people doing The Twist. Unfortunately, there's no Youtube video. And Shaher Se Ladne Youtube @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5IALXvF4xk.
Just got your query and I guess I am late. The answer is correct. It is Rafi-Asha duet from ROOTHA NA KARO. It is a typical C.Ramchandra tune.
ReplyDeleteMr Naidu and Mr Nasir, thank you so much for answering. Since finding the song, I have been able to sleep well again...LOL...you know how it is when A TUNE GETS STUCK IN YOUR HEAD...arrgh!
ReplyDeleteMr Naidu, thanks for the info. I have to keep an eye out for the album. If you (or anyone reading this) do see a good copy, do let me know. And I have to get the DVD too by the sounds of it!
