MUSIC #24: ANANDA SHANKAR 1970 (INSTRUMENTAL)


To kick off this week, I thought I'd post this awesome instrumental sitar album by Ananda Shankar. A fusion between Western Rock, Raagas and Indian sitar music - psychedelic!

My rating: Pure 5 star enjoyment.

    Great album Veen, I've actually had it in my collection for many years now.

    I just love his versions of 'Jumpin Jack Flash' & 'Light My Fire'. I remember when I first heard them on sitar, they sounded so unusual - very 'hippyish', but really grew on me.

    I know you are an Elvis fan also, so can you imagine Elvis songs done on sitar ?

    I used to have this and a few more LPs of AS, including a couple of LP-45s. Somehow, I find them to be "outdated" now - except for the Sitar part. All those percussions and other instruments sound too old now. May be, I am comparing them to the latest recording technology and the instruments. Whatever ....

    Babu, I just love the sitar music in this album (and that of Ravi Shankar albums), but you are right when you say that the non sitar bits are a bit dull compared to the synthesiser enhanced music of today. But I must admit that there is some nostalgia and real art/talent in those old albums, compared to the computer generated music of these days.
