The colloquial term popularly used to describe the Hindi-language film industry based in Mumbai (Bombay) India. The term is often incorrectly used to refer to the whole of Indian cinema; it is only a part of the Indian film industry. Extended Play or EP Records:
An EP is a musical recording which contains more music than a single recording, but is too short to qualify as a full album or LP. The term EP originally referred only to specific types of vinyl records, but it is now applied to mid-length compact discs and music downloads as well. In the United Kingdom, the Official Chart Company defines a boundary between EP and album classification at 25 minutes of length or four tracks (plus alternative versions of featured songs).
Long Play or LP Records:
12-inch records that are played at 33 rpm.
Original Soundtrack (Recording):
Original Soundtrack or OST is recorded music accompanying and synchronised to the images of a motion picture or television program.
Phonograph Records:
Also known as vinyls, they are generally described by their size (12-inch, 10-inch or 7-inch); the rotational speed at which they are played (33 rpm, 45 rpm or 78 rpm); their time capacity (LP or EP); their reproductive accuracy/fidelity; and/or the number of channels of audio provided (Mono, Stereo or Quadraphonic).
RPM:
Or revolutions per minute, is a unit of frequency of rotation, that is, the number of full rotations completed in one minute around a fixed axis. It is used as a measure of rotational speed of a mechanical component, such as in motor vehicles and phonograph records.
Vinyl:
1. The univalent chemical radical CH2CH, derived from ethylene.
2. Any of various compounds containing the vinyl radical, typically highly reactive, easily polymerized, and used as basic materials for plastics.
3. Any of various typically tough, flexible, shiny plastics, often used for coverings and clothing.
4. Slang meaning "gramophone or phonograph record".
Vinyls or records are analog sound storage medium consisting of a flat disc with an inscribed, modulated spiral groove. The groove usually starts near the periphery and ends near the centre of the disc.
